DisplayPort is a digital display interface standard put forth by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) since 2006. It defines a new royalty-free, digital audio/video interconnect, intended to be used primarily between a computer and its display monitor, or a computer and a home-theater system.
DisplayPort is a new technology that is looking to replace DVI and VGA as a video connection. The DisplayPort cable is notably smaller than both of these technologies and includes a snap-lock connector to make connecting and disconnecting simple.
Display Port will most likely become the new standard for high end video equipment. It is capable of carrying a high bandwidth digital audio and video signal. Supporting a maximum bandwidth of 10.8 Gbps, DisplayPort is capable of providing higher performance than either HDMI or dual link DVI and supports next generation multimedia applications with a maximum resolution capability of up to WQXGA (2560×1600). |
