SAN / Fiber channel (50 microns)
The major benefit of 50 micron (µm) diameter fiber is its high bandwidth. Standard quality 50 µm fiber (500 / 500Mhz / km) has 3 times the bandwidth of standard 62.5 µm (160 / 500Mhz / km) at the 850 nm wavelength. This greater bandwidth allows 50 µm fiber to support 1 and 10Giga bits/s data rates, necessary to future proof your cabling for many years to come. Conversely standard 62.5 µm fibers cannot support these high data rates over desired distances.
